WAAN’s Mission Statement

The Wisconsin Aging Advocacy Network (WAAN) is a collaboration of organizations and individuals working with and for Wisconsin’s older adults to shape public policy and improve the quality of life for older people. WAAN advocates for all older adults by educating the community and policy makers on particular issues impacting older adults; mobilizing people on priority issues; and advocating for change.

WAAN’s Vision

WAAN’s Vision is to build a society that engages, values, and supports people as they age by increasing the capacity for citizen leadership and action for both individuals and the community.

Organization and Structure

Membership in WAAN consists of two types: core and affiliate. Core members must be a group or coalition. Incorporation, such as a 501 c 3, is not a requirement but it must demonstrate its purpose as a group that identifies with the subject of aging and its commitment to the work and mission of WAAN. Core members vote on and adopt WAAN’s platform of priority issues. Valuable WAAN members may be those from agencies, groups or coalitions serving older adults, caregivers, and/or those with disabling conditions. Affiliate members are persons who identify with the subject of aging and are committed to the work and mission of WAAN. Affiliates are individual persons who are not representing an organization or coalition. Affiliates are not eligible to vote. Potential new members will be approved on consensus of the WAAN membership. WAAN affirms that older adults should always be at the table in discussion that impacts them. WAAN holds monthly meetings of core members and affiliates to discuss, strategize, and coordinate advocacy activities.
